Description
Solid rod in natural rigid PVC, to be turned or milled into the finished part. It is the economical engineering plastic for chemical plant construction: it resists acids and alkalis very well, is self-extinguishing and is easy to work, by machining as well as by welding and gluing.
- Diametersfrom 20 to 100 mm
- Bars500 mm / 1000 mm
- Operating temperature*0 / +60 °C
- Density*1.40 g/cm³
The material
Rigid PVC works well at room temperature, between 0 and +60 °C: below zero it becomes brittle under impact, above 60 °C it loses rigidity. It is easy to weld and glue, which is why tanks and electroplating plants are built in PVC.
Oversize diameters: the actual diameter of the rods is slightly larger than the nominal one, leaving material for turning to size.
Typical applications
Operating conditions
| Service temperature* | 0 / +60 °C continuous |
|---|---|
| Resists | Dilute and concentrated acids and alkalis, salts, alcohols, mineral oils. Self-extinguishing |
| Avoid | Aromatic and chlorinated solvents, ketones, esters, temperatures below zero or above +60 °C |
| Water absorption* | < 0,1 % |
| Hardness* | 80 Shore D |
| Tensile strength* | 50-60 MPa |
| Density* | 1.40 g/cm³ |
Advantages
- Excellent resistance to acids and alkalis, even concentrated
- Self-extinguishing without additives
- Among the cheapest in its class
- Easy to weld and glue
Limitations
- Narrow temperature range: 0 / +60 °C
- Brittle below zero
- Attacked by aromatic and chlorinated solvents
Available sizes
Diameters from 20 to 100 mm (9 sizes), in 500 mm or 1000 mm bars.
Technician's tipIt is the economical choice for chemical plant at room temperature. Outside the 0/+60 °C window, or where aromatic solvents are involved, a different material is needed.
