Description
Solid rod in white Polizene 1000 (PE-UHMW), to be turned or milled into the finished part. It is the thermoplastic with the highest abrasion resistance: self-lubricating, it absorbs no water and takes impacts even at very low temperatures.
- Diametersfrom 20 to 100 mm
- Bars500 mm / 1000 mm
- Operating temperature*-200 / +80 °C
- Density*0.94 g/cm³
The material
Polizene 1000 slides extremely well, holds no water and resists acids, alkalis and salts. It is, however, soft and not very rigid: it is the material for sliding wear, not for load-bearing parts. It cannot be glued or welded with common methods, so it is fixed mechanically (countersunk screws, interlocking joints).
Oversize diameters: the actual diameter of the rods is slightly larger than the nominal one, leaving material for turning to size.
Typical applications
Operating conditions
| Service temperature* | -200 / +80 °C continuous |
|---|---|
| Resists | Acids, alkalis, salts, solvents at room temperature. Abrasion resistance higher than steel in many tests |
| Avoid | Applications above +80 °C, gluing, components requiring high rigidity |
| Water absorption* | < 0,01 % |
| Hardness* | 62-66 Shore D |
| Tensile strength* | 17-22 MPa |
| Density* | 0.94 g/cm³ |
Advantages
- Highest abrasion resistance among thermoplastics
- Self-lubricating, very low friction
- Impact resistant down to cryogenic temperatures
- Does not absorb water, excellent chemical resistance
Limitations
- Cannot be glued or welded with common methods
- Low rigidity: not suitable for load-bearing functions
- Temperature limit of +80 °C
- Difficult to machine to very tight tolerances
Available sizes
Diameters from 20 to 100 mm (9 sizes), in 500 mm or 1000 mm bars.
Technician's tipChoose it when the problem is sliding wear, not load. If the part has to carry weight or stay rigid, this is not the material.
