Description
Solid rod in black nylon PA6 + MoS2, to be turned or milled into the finished part. It is PA6 with added molybdenum disulphide, the solid lubricant that gives it its characteristic black colour: it is made for parts that slide without anyone greasing them.
- Diametersfrom 20 to 100 mm
- Bars500 mm / 1000 mm
- Operating temperature*-40 / +100 °C
- Density*1.15 g/cm³
The material
Mechanically it behaves like PA6, but the surface is harder and slides better when dry: it scratches less and wears steel mating parts less. It machines like natural PA6 and, like it, absorbs some moisture (2-3 %), to be considered for tight tolerances.
Oversize diameters: the actual diameter of the rods is slightly larger than the nominal one, leaving material for turning to size.
Typical applications
Operating conditions
| Service temperature* | -40 / +100 °C continuous |
|---|---|
| Resists | Like natural PA6, plus better dry sliding and higher surface hardness |
| Avoid | Strong acids, applications requiring the natural colour or food contact |
| Water absorption* | 2-3 % moisture at saturation in air |
| Hardness* | 82 Shore D |
| Tensile strength* | ≥ 78 MPa |
| Density* | 1.15 g/cm³ |
| Food contact | No: not suitable for food contact |
Advantages
- Slides better than natural PA6 without lubrication
- Higher surface hardness, scratches less
- Same mechanical strength as cast PA6
Limitations
- Absorbs moisture like natural PA6
- Available in black only
- Slightly more brittle than natural PA6
Available sizes
Diameters from 20 to 100 mm (9 sizes), in 500 mm or 1000 mm bars.
Technician's tipPrefer it to natural PA6 whenever the part works in sliding contact without lubrication. If colour or food contact matter, go back to natural PA6.
